	Islandfest - 41st Annual Grosse Ile, MI - Grosse Ile Municipal Airport Show Dates: 5/30/2025 to 6/01/2025 www.grosseileislandfest.com/ It all began with an azalea. When Earnest Stanton, a descendent of Alexander and William Macomb, returned home from World War I in need of work to assist with his recovery, he returned to the family farm on Grosse Ile. Westcroft, the oldest farm in Michigan maintained by the same family, was a hay farm at the time. Stanton began to experiment with azaleas and rhododendrons in one of the green houses. Both plants were not indigenous to Grosse Ile and were mostly grown on the East and West Coasts, where the soil was more acidic and the climate rainier. Working with the soil, Stanton slowly changed Westcroft into a nursery specializing in acid soil plants such as rhododendrons, azaleas, laurels, dogwood, etc. Changing the treeless hay fields into 5 Â½ acres of landscaped botanical gardens. In 1984, Denise de Beausset, the 7th generation of family to own and run Westcroft decided the legacy of Stanton and his azaleas should be celebrated. The first festival, the Azalea Festival took place mainly at Westcroft Gardens that year. With Kelly and Co. broadcasting live from the Gardens there was an arts and crafts show, a Maypole Dance, and a parade on Macomb Street. As the festival grew in size, Westcroft Gardens was too small to accommodate the activities and with each passing year more of the activities moved to Macomb Street. By the second year, the Macomb Street Business Association was managing the details. Eventually, as the festival grew it was moved in 2002 to its current location at the Grosse Ile Airport. Tony Rutkowski, Chair of the Festival in 2002, explained the move, â€œwe needed to allow more room for vendors and showcasing the abundance of activities.â€ Westcroft Gardens remained directly involved in the festival until Denise de Beausset stepped down from the Festival Commission. From its very humble beginnings at Westcroft Gardens in 1984 IslandFest has grown to be one of the largest and most well attended festivals in the area. Annual favorites, like the TAILS auction and Jazzapalooza have been part of the festivities for over ten years. Many activities have been part of the Festival from the start; the Macomb Street Parade, arts and craft show, and the carnival. An Island celebration: â€œWhere the river ends and fun begins."

In Mid-October, the market moves inside the Velvet Mill in the back room closest to Meadow Avenue. The Stonington Farmers’ Market began in 1997 under the initiative of Geoffrey Little. The enormously popular market attracts residents from the Borough and surrounding communities who come to buy fresh, healthy, local food. In 2008 the Stonington Farmers’ Market became a year-round event, moving inside during the winter months. Items sold at the market include locally grown vegetables and fruits, jams, a variety of breads, pies and baked goods, cheese, eggs, poultry, meat, seafood, Italian ices, maple syrup, honey, and flowers. Thanks to greenhouses, our farmers are able to offer a selection of fresh produce throughout the winter. We work with for-profit and non-profit organizations, and host our own shows as well. The Vision Northcoast Promotions, Inc. (NPI) was created to meet specific needs for both the organization hosting an event, and the exhibitor. Years of experience allows NPI to create a seamless, stress-free event by ensuring consistency in all facets of our shows for everyone involved. NPI takes the pressure off host organization staff and volunteers by recruiting qualified exhibitors. We work with both host organizations and exhibitors to manage agreements, confirmations and relevant, timely advertising on a per show basis. Company History Northcoast Promotions, Inc. began working with organizations in the Greater Cleveland area in 2004 to help organize their art shows, outdoor festivals and local craft shows. That first year, we helped organize six shows. In 2009, we had 20 individual events, with the Friday with the Artist series running every Friday May-October that year at Tower City. This brought our events to 44 shows that year. In 2010, when counting our weekly events individually, we have grown to 95 events for the year! We have other events still pending and continue to grow. Our events vary from one day shows to week long events. To participate in our shows as an exhibitor, fees range from $20.00 to $300.00, depending upon the show. For our event patrons, most of our events are free and open to the public. Sometimes events hosted by another organization will have admittance fees attached. Please inquire if you have any questions. Visitors to our shows should feel free to contact us for a listing of participants for a particular show ahead of time, or if you are looking for an exhibitor from one of our past shows, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to pass your contact information along to the exhibitor directly. For our exhibitors, we will be available to answer any questions you may have before an event. We will send you the agreement, confirmations, maps, flyers etc. On the day(s) of the event, our trained staff is on hand from set up through tear down to assist you. Some of our craft shows are handmade only, others are open to home party consultants. For our art shows, the concepts and execution must be original work, no kits.
